London Hydro Wins Award for its Smart and Resilient Power System

On Saturday, June 8th, London Hydro was presented with the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). This award recognizes the innovative and transformational approach London Hydro has taken in developing its grid, resulting in a smart and resilient power system.

London Hydro has one of the most reliable grids in Ontario. Since 2013, the frequency and duration of outages have consistently trended downwards, with some of our best results occurring in recent years. Our ongoing commitment to building a resilient and reliable grid is achieved by leveraging innovative technologies focusing on process efficiencies.

• Automation - Real-time monitoring and control systems improved our grid's visibility and response time, allowing us to remotely control sections when possible and restore power more quickly.

• Digital Tools - Digitization of processes and supporting applications allows London Hydro to thoroughly evaluate, investigate, and troubleshoot the grid.

• Infrastructure Upgrades - We’ve future-proofed our system, building in safety and security through the refurbishment and expansion of critical communications infrastructure, meeting today’s and the future needs of a smart grid utility.
